Goals and Courses

One of the goals of the Lifespan Developmental area is to provide our students with a broad education of human development across the lifespan regardless of their specific research area (i.e., childhood, adolescence, aging). Individually tailored plans of graduate work are created in consultation with the student's committee to augment core courses that are designed to provide students with a broad-based knowledge of developmental psychology and methodology. Consequently, the coursework in the Developmental area includes classes ranging from childhood to end of life and content ranging from social to cognitive development. In addition, students may develop specializations within specific sub-areas (cognitive development, social development) and age groups (e.g. childhood, adulthood and aging).
